Russell Owen Enjoys His First Day Out With The Welsh Hawks Team.

Russ had been eagerly waiting for the first day out with the rest of the lads who I fish with in the Welsh Hawks. Although the forecast wasn’t great for our first day out on Clywedog with rain most of the day and a moderate breeze but I wanted to try out some of the new Superflo tip lines from Airflo.

Head ranger Gazza Dixon fishing dry flies at Llyn Clywedog

Head ranger Gazza Dixon testing the Loop 7X 10-foot 7 WT fly rod and the Loop Oti still water line at Llyn Clywedog. A day of free rising fish and a great day to test the Loop 7X. This rod is very light for a 7 wt and extremely accurate. Having used this rod with fast sinking lines and knowing the power it has I was interested to see how it would handle dry fly fishing all day from a drifting boat. The...

Chasing Welsh Gold – Fly Fishing in the MOUNTAINS

Wild mountain fishing for wild brown trout in the Snowdonia national park. The forgotten mountain lakes in North Wales offer serine natural vistas with exceptional fly fishing and reasonable access for a true wilderness experience. First Trip after Lockdown to Wal Goch Trout Fishery

After a long lock down, it was great to finally get out fishing again. I received a call from good friend Mike Williams and asked if I fancied a short evening session at Wal Goch Trout Fishery. The fishery is only a short distance from my office so what better than after a long day, a few hours fishing.

Some Gold after Lockdown

So eventually we were given the green light to venture out of the house for angling activities after our mandatory lockdown. In fairness that last 8 weeks actually went surprisingly quick considering I hadn’t lifted a rod. Must have been all those household chores I was never able to complete!

The Importance of the right eye wear

One question I get asked a lot throughout the season when fishing from a drifting boat is how I manage to spot fish rising so well and be able to see my dry flies. There are lots of tips that help, spending time on the water and honing your peripheral vision is a big help. Once you get used to seeing any movement on the water you will be amazed how fast your fish spotting skills improve. When looking for...
