Llyn Clywedog is nothing short of a spectacle fishery with amazing
views wildlife and best of all for us fishing people top fishing. A fishery run
by fly fishers for fly fishers and a lake that has now become the best fishery
in Wales in my opinion. With Russ and Gazza away on international duties with
the Welsh Youth and David Hoppe fishing the last round of the Scierra pairs. We
found ourselves one short Anthony Cartwright kindly filled in for us.

With Gazza away I arrived a little later than normal on Saturday
for a practice day. After the heat wave no body was sure what to expect, the
pets at the jetty had disappeared to deeper water and this is always a sign the
fish have gone deep. My Partner for the day due to Guss being on family commitments
was my old team mate from my solider palmer days Phil Lumber. Our practice plan
was Aled and Anthony would cover the cages Eblid and the basin and we would
cover the Braich and dead channel and work our way back to meet at the lodge
for 1.

splitting things up in the Boat I setup with the Airflo
Booby Basher and 2 boobies on a short leader while Phil went for a midge tip
washing line. Fishing was tough even for such a well-stocked lake I had manged
5 on the basher while Phil had only had one pull. It was a similar story with
Aled And Anthony, the talk was how hard it was fishing. After some food and a
hot drink at the lodge and a fair bit of banter with the Foxons team we where
back out. Aled headed down to the dam and we went to the cages. fishing was
tough with only the odd fish coming, we worked to the sailing club for only a
fish each. As we where drifting over the sailing club point, I had a firm take
deep on the hang. Which turned out to be a cracking brown almost albino looking
in colour not a double but a cracking fish. After a hard day me and Anthony headed
To Hafren Forst Bunkhouse which was our accommodation for the night. I can
highly recommend this place the owners gave us a very warm welcome and the food
is very good even having bacon rolls made for us to take with us for our day
afloat.

With Russ and Gazza away, the pressure was on Aled gave the
team plan which was either a booby basher 2 boobies and a corm in the middle or
DI5 40+ and one booby. Anthony would start at Eblid and the rest off around the
cages. My partner for the day was Marian Davies she was happy with the plan.
After 40 minutes at the cages neither me or Marian had not even had a pull and
we had seen very little caught. We headed to Eblid to See Anthony he had not
had anything either.  I manged to pick 3
fish up very deep on a tequila Booby but it was slow going. We decided to make
a bold move and head right to the top of the lake at Baich Y Fedw. This proved
a bad move and very hard work with only a mountain of perch for us both to show
for our efforts. We manged one each at the LLwyd but this was not good. As we
got into the dead channel, we saw Carl Williams take a fish and Phil Lumber so decided
to stop and have a look. This was the changing point for me catching on an
olive and black booby or tequila on the Booby Basher I started to build a bag.
Marian was also catching on a tequila booby but was losing a few to. I manged
to get to 14 before things slowed right down. A change to drys had me back into
them a Gazza special on the point was doing the damage. Now on 19 time was
running out with a quick stop at the mouth of the bigga I manged one more
before we headed back to the jetty.

Guss had some how manged 15 at the cages amazing angling by
him Anthony had stayed at Eblid and finished with 12 and Aled had grinded out
6. A great result for the Welsh Hawks.
